Course Overview

This Indian cooking class is a fantastic way to learn how to make delightful Indian treats for your loved ones in your own kitchen. We have selected different dishes from around India, along with their signature spices, so that you can widen your repertoire of recipes.

You will learn the basics of different regions within one of the world’s most popular cuisines.

The day will include hot, spicier dishes of the south region and rich, mellow dishes of the northern region. This course should inspire you and instil confidence. When you get home to your own kitchen, you will be able to confidently recreate these dishes for yourself.

Recipes learnt

  • Goan prawn curry with tamarind and chillies
  • Gujarati dahl with jaggery and fenugreek
  • Delhi saag gosht, a spiced lamb curry with spinach
  • Peas and potatoes with mustard seeds
  • Bengali pineapple chutney

Throughout the day you’ll stop to eat the food you’ve cooked in our private dining room with everyone else. A chance to share your experiences in creating the dishes as well as great food.

Techniques learnt

  • Balancing and blending spices
  • Preparation of a variety of Indian dishes, including meat, fish, vegetarian dishes and accompaniments such as an Indian chutney
  • How to make a delicious dahl
  • Creating a traditional Indian slow cooked curry
  • Cooking perfect rice

This day long course is designed to give you total confidence in using all of these techniques. The aim is that you can go home and repeat the recipes for family and friends time and again.

Your chef tutor

Monisha has devoted her professional career to Indian cookery. She has written 15 top selling cookery books, which have won countless awards and sold millions of copies in 8 different languages. Other career highlights have been appearing on TV cookery shows and being a judge at the Guild of Fine Foods ‘Great Taste Awards’. Alongside this, she has been a guest chef at a Michelin starred Intercontinental Hotel restaurant.

Having created menus for some of the top film stars and Indian politicians, Monisha is the perfect person to guide you through this Indian cookery course.

About your day

Our cookery courses take place on the Catton Hall Estate. On the picturesque Derbyshire and Staffordshire border, we are only minutes from the A38. We also have plenty of free parking.

You’ll have the support of our “kitchen fairies” who’ll ensure you have everything you need. We’ll provide an apron for the day, and all the equipment and ingredients.

You’ll be sitting down together during the day to eat the dishes you’ve created. We’ll also provide wine and soft drinks.

Our day courses run from 10.15am to 4pm. Join the team for early morning refreshments from 10am.
