About the Course

The variation of the spices used and the flavours created in different regions of India is what makes Indian food so charming.


This one day Indian Cookery class taught by Monisha Bharadwaj will give you an understanding of the different regions of India, their signature spices and dishes that have made Indian food so popular. Whether hotter, spicier dishes of the south and mellow dishes of the north this gastronomic tour of one of the world's most exciting countries will be a fun filled day.  


Techniques you will learn on this Indian Cookery Class:

- How to make authentic regional Indian dishes

- How to balance and blend spices in both meat and fish dishes

- How to make side dishes including a delicious aromatic pineapple chutney

- How to create flavoured rice

- How to make a traditional Indian Ice Cream


Recipes on this Indian Cookery Class will be:*

- Goan Prawn Curry with tamarind and chillies

- Gujarati Sweet and Sour Dal with jaggery and fenugreek

Delhi Saag Gosht a Spiced Lamb curry with Spinach and Cumin flavoured Rice

- Peas and Potatoes with mustard seeds

- Bengali Pineapple Chutney with five spice seeds and an aromatic 

- Masala Tea Kulfi Indian ice cream flavoured with cardamom tea.

The focus of this one-day Indian cookery class will be teaching you about spices and giving you a repertoire of different Indian dishes, which you will be able to recreate again in your own kitchen.

Your chef for this Indian Cookery class will be Monisha Bharadwaj. Monisha is an award winning cookery book author, and often appears on television and writes for newspapers. Monisha originally comes from Mumbai and has a vast knowledge about Indian spices, flavours and dishes.

Lunch will be provided on this Indian Cookery class as well as all equipment and ingredients needed for the day. On this course most of the food you make will be consumed throughout the day, and you will leave with the knowledge to recreate it all again in your own kitchens.


All of our cookery courses take place at our cookery school which is located at Catton Hall in South Derbyshire. We have excellent transport to major road links such as the A38, M1 and M6 and London is only 1 hour 30 minutes via train from Lichfield Trent Valley. We also have plenty of free parking spaces at the Cookery School in our walled car park.
