About the Course

This one day basic bread making class will teach you the fundamentals of bread making, so that you will leave confident to bake your own bread in your own kitchen at home.

This bread course is taught by Ruth Clemens, 2010 Great British Bake Off finalist, author of three baking books and the fabulous Pink Whisk blog. You couldn't find a better and more approachable teacher to teach you the fundamentals of bread making and inspire you to bake at home.


Techniques you will learn on this baking course:

- The essential bread making techniques including enriching, kneading, proving and shaping

- How to bake bread in tins as well as 'free formed' loaves shaped by hand

- How to create sweet and savoury bread

- Understand how to make bread using pre-ferments

- How to create a delicious, versatile flavour combinations which can be adapted at home

Classic white rolls

- Rosemary and sea salt focaccia

- Maple and pecan loaf

- Brioche pizza dough (demonstration)


The perfect baking course for..... people who have an interest in bread making, but want a step by step guide and some fool-proof knowledge to enable you to master bread making at home.

 Lunch is provided on this basic bread making class as well as all equipment and aprons. (For baking courses, we just ask that you bring three large biscuit tins to take your freshly baked goodies home in).

All of our baking and cookery courses take place at our cookery school on the Catton Hall estate on the Derbyshire / Staffordshire border.  With excellent transport links and ample free parking we are a convenient location for guests visiting from around the country.
