Jackie Kearney, best known for her time on 2011 Masterchef has a real passion for Asian cuisine. She has travelled all over Asia and now hopes to ‘raise the bar’ for vegetarian and Asian cooking in the UK.
Jackie is also teaching an amazing Malaysian & Thai course with us in November.
What has been your top foodie discovery recently?
Japanese soul food (aka Nanban/Tim Anderson). I fell in love with the chilled reimen, a Korean influence dish from southern Japan, with a tea-smoked egg. Perfection in a bowl. You can check out some photos on my blog www.thehungrygecko.blogspot.com
Where is the best place you’ve eaten at recently?
I went to Tim Anderson’s Nanban pop up at The Market House Brixton. It really was amazing! I’m also off to Manchester House next month to experience their vegetarian tasting menu. I’ll let you know!
What is your food heaven & your food hell?
Food heaven for me is a South Indian dosa cafe (of which there are lots popping up in UK now), which have perfectly made ravi dosa!
Food hell for me is the street food pop-ups (again of which there are many) where the dominating food is grilled meat and burgers.
What dish do you currently want to perfect?
Tim’s chilled reimen & tea smoked egg. I’m also trying to perfect my own dosa (Indian pancake) making.
What have you got planned in the next month or two?
I’m finishing writing my new cookbook which I hope to publish next year. I’m also concentrating on my new sauce and spice paste range, with the launch of a new vegan pad Thai sauce later this year.
