Course Overview

This baking class for beginners will teach the essential techniques for baking sweet and savoury delights at home. Beca Lyne-Pirkis, a Great British Bake Off Semi-Finalist in 2013, is your expert baker and guide for the day. She will help you gain confidence in your baking by teaching the building blocks of pastry, cake, and bread making. These skills and techniques are adaptable to many different recipes with different flavour combinations. Learning these will open up new avenues of baking for you to conquer at home.

This course is ideal for beginners, even if you are a baking novice and have never used a rolling pin before. You might be a whiz in the kitchen but want to expand your repertoire of recipes to include more baking. This course will allow you to gain confidence in the art of baking while having fun at the same time. You will create a delicious tart, a moist cake and a crusty herb bread.

Recipes learnt

Throughout the day, you will cook all of these delicious bakes to take home with you:

  • Moroccan roasted vegetable tart
  • Chocolate & cherry swiss roll with honeycomb
  • A yeasted shaped loaf and fruit loaf

(Please note, we reserve the right to alter the dishes covered in the course, to meet the dietary requirements of our guests).

Techniques learnt

  • Learn how to make a yeasted dough and a shaped loaf
  • Learn how to slash the bread & decorate with seeds
  • Fruit bread & spices in half and shape
  • Learn how to blind bake
  • Making pastry & lining a tin
  • How to make honeycomb

This day long baking class is designed to give you total confidence in using all of these techniques. The aim is that you can go home and repeat the recipes for family and friends time and again.
