Carers activities
Full time carers play a valuable role in society, looking after loved ones in their homes. Derbyshire Carers Authority provide help and support for full time carers and invited us to do two series of courses with these amazing volunteers.
The brief was a 3 hour workshop, to take place in village halls around the county, which would be fun, sociable, informative and relevant for carers to use again at home to enrich the lives of the people that they care for.
On the menu was:
Beef and Ale Stew
A hearty prepare ahead meal, suitable for freezing and making in batches
~
Thai Chicken Stir Fry
A quick easy dish, full of flavour
~
Coq au Vin
A classic slow cooked dish, perfect for left-overs
~
Smoked Haddock with spinach and a poached egg
A quick easy, classic dish that can be cooked in minutes and is packed full of nutrients
~
The Perfect Omelette
‘Crack an egg and make a meal’ - a guide to the perfect omelette with a competitive edge
~
Banana Split with toffee sauce
A fun dessert good for grown-ups and children alike
~
Baked Apples
Nutritious and a great way to use up left over apples
The events were mobile to make them as accessible as possible for carers. The workshops not only taught carers valuable skills but were fun and interactive. Comments from carers include; “It has given me a welcome break and really lifted my spirits”, “Fabulous to get out of the house and learn something that will benefit me in the long run.”
Michaela Bell from Derbyshire Carers Association endorsed the value of these days; “The workshops have been valued and well received by carers, enabling them to take a break from their daily caring routine, meet others in a similar situation and have some ‘me’ time.”
